Brief History of Pandi Bulacan

Pandi is the youngest town in Bulacan. During the Spanish days it formed part of the vast Sta. Maria de Pandi Estate which included the towns of Sta. Maria and Balagtas and parts of Angat and Bustos. The present site of the municipal building was then enclosed with high and massive walls similar to the famous Walls of Intramuros which served as the center of power and activities of the Spanish friars who owned and administered the haciendas. Politically, however, Pandi was then a part of the town of Balagtas (then Bigaa) until its formal separation and independence on April 17, 1946.

Pandi is part of the hilly portions of the Province of Bulacan that were once covered with dense forest: a tropical jungle. It was told that very few people ventured this place and still fewer would want to settle here. When the Spaniards came colonizing the Philippines, this place became a refuge for those fleeing the cruelty of the inva-ders. During their stay, forests were cleared for agriculture and cultivation of crops that would yield a bountiful harvest of palay, vegetables and fruits.

Pandi survived the years of grueling encounter with three ruinous wars. The first was during the Spanish conquest. Then came the Americans and third was with the Japanese forces. The Bulakeņos displayed their gallant fight for freedom through these heroic mo-ments in Philippine history. But it was during the Spanish time when Real de Kakarong rose to its greatness and glory. This historic place is the site of the bloody and tragic battle. More than a thousand fell in the valiant attempt to fight foreign aggression.

A monument of Inang Pilipinas stands in honor of the heroism displayed the Bulakeņos at Real de Kakarong.
