Pulilan Bulacan Philippines
Brief History of Pulilan
It was on January 20, 1796 when Fr. Vicente Villamanzo, an Augustinian priest,
started the construction of the church of Pulilan. At that time, the
place has no official name. It was temporarily called San Isidro Labrador in
honor of the patron saint of farmers. It was later designated ‘Pulilan’ a
constraction from ‘Pulo ng Ilan’ or ‘Pulo ng Ulan’ and has retained that name up
this day.
In 1904, Pulilan was only a barrio of the town of Quingua (now Plaridel). In
1909, thru the initiative of its residents some of whom were Eugenio Tiangco,
Hilario Esquerra and Adriano Salvador made representations with Governor
Teodorico Sandico and made possible its separation from Quiangua.
Pulilan is predominantly a Catholic town. It celebrates its fiesta in
honor of San Isidro Labrador every May 14 and 15 of the year. The popular annual
carabao parade is undertaken as part of the fiesta celebration. The main
occupation of residents is farming.
