Brief history of Llanera
Llanera, Nueva Ecija was created into a Municipality on May 11, 1955
under Republic Act 1221, which was signed by the late President Ramon Magsaysay
Sr.. It is located at the heart of the Province of Nueva Ecija; composed of
twenty two (22) political subdivisions which were taken from different
Municipalities and cities particularly San Jose City, Rizal and Talavera City.
The barangays of Mabini, Gen. Ricarte, Gen. Luna, New Murcon, Casile, San
Vicente, Bosque, and Gomez, were taken from the City of Talavera. Florida
Blanca, Villa Veniegas, Sta. Barbara, Ligaya, A. Bonifacio Sur, A. Bonifacio
Norte, San Nicolas, Caridad Norte and Caridad Sur were formerly barangays of the
City of San Jose. The barangays of San Felipe and Inanama were taken from the
municipality of Rizal.
The seat of the Municipality was the former Barrio of San Jose City, called
Bagong Bayan, which was subdivided into three barangays and were called Plaridel,
Victoria and Bagumbayan. The hub of the locality is located 16 kms. south of San
Jose City, 27 kms. north of Cabanatuan City and 11 kms. southwest of Rizal.
The name Llanera was taken after the name of Gen. Mariano Llanera,
a gallant leader of the Philippine revolution in 1898.
The main crop raised in the Municipality is rice and few hectares are devoted to
high-value crop production like, onion, garlic, beans, eggplant, peanut and many
others. Llanera is composed of 11,626.27 hectares, 75% of which is
devoted to agriculture and the rest are being devoted for residential and
commercial purposes. Some 5,500 hectares of its area are covered by irrigation
system and 2,5000 hectares are rainfed.
Most of the residents of the Municipality are immigrants from the neighboring
provinces. The dialect from the southern portion of the locality is Tagalog,
while the northern part is Ilocano.
